Before you begin

Match the output to its destination.

Check the codecs inside the source container and the requirements of the target player, editor, or device before converting.

Prepare MPEG-2 media for Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro can import some MPEG-2 media, but compatibility depends on the container, video and audio codecs, frame structure, and available camera metadata. Standalone MPG or MPEG files may therefore fail to import even when they play in another application.

If Final Cut Pro rejects the source, use the Editing > Final Cut Pro preset to create an editing-ready copy. Keep the source resolution and frame rate unless the project requires a deliberate change, then test a short clip for picture, audio, field order, and sync before processing the complete batch.

Add the source

Load the MPEG-2 files

Open LosslessConverter and select Add Files. Add the MPEG-2 files and select the files required for this workflow.

Match Final Cut Pro

Choose Editing > Final Cut Pro

Open Output Format, select the Editing group, and choose Final Cut Pro. Select Same as source to retain the source dimensions, or choose HD 1080P or HD 720P to match the project resolution.

Create the current output

Select Start All, then verify in Final Cut Pro

Choose an output folder and select Start All. When processing finishes, import the converted files into Final Cut Pro and verify the project resolution, frame rate, picture, and audio.
