Transcoding Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio MXF DNxHD to ProRes 422 For Final Cut Pro


The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio Pro creates files that are perfect for any broadcast and post production workflow! HyperDeck Studio’s uncompressed video files are recorded in QuickTime format to provide universal compatibility with leading video software. Both HyperDeck Studio models also support Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD industry standard file compression so you can record directly to your preferred video format. DNxHD and ProRes provide 5 times longer recording than uncompressed HD video, while maintaining 10-bit color and full frame 1920 x 1080 sampling.


Although it announces that the videos which are recorded by Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio Pro can be compatible with Final Cut Pro, Avid Meida Composer or some other common editing pograms, owing to the different codec and computer configuration, some persons still meet importing or other audio/video problems while they are trying to edit these videos in Final Cut Pro as the user below.


We received our Hyperdeck Studio on September 26th., bu the problem appeared after several days. Placing an SSD drive from the Hyperdeck into a SATA reader produces nothing but garbled results. MXF DNxHD will not be imported into either Avid Media Composer or Final Cut Pro. Instead, it seems to start importing the footage then causes both applications to quit unexpectedly.

Add the source

Load the HyperDeck DNxHD MXF clips

Open LosslessConverter and select Add Files. Add the HyperDeck DNxHD MXF clips and select the files required for this workflow.

Create editing-ready media

Choose Editing > ProRes

Open Output Format, select the Editing group, and choose ProRes. Select Same as source to retain the source dimensions; choose HD 1080P or HD 720P only when the project deliberately uses that resolution.

Create the current output

Select Start All, then verify in Final Cut Pro

Choose an output folder and select Start All. When processing finishes, import the ProRes MOV files into Final Cut Pro and verify picture, frame rate, and audio.
