Problem and solution

Identify the MXF codec before choosing a workflow.

Check the codec, audio layout, metadata, and camera folder structure, then confirm what the destination can import directly.

Legacy nanoFlash and Avid workflow. This article applies specifically to nanoFlash MXF media and an older Avid Media Composer workflow. Current support depends on the recording codec, MXF operational pattern, and installed Avid components.

Update the legacy nanoFlash workflow

nanoFlash is a legacy recorder whose MXF behavior depends on the selected recording codec and operational pattern. Current Avid support differs from the Media Composer 5.5 workflow originally described on this page.

Try current Avid linking with the original media first. If the recording cannot be linked, create a DNxHD editing copy that matches the source frame rate and dimensions, then verify picture, audio channels, timecode, and sync.

Solution direction

Apply the solution in the workflow below.

Three-step workflow

Create and verify one test output before processing the full batch.

Match nanoFlash recording settings with an Avid-compatible media path.

01

Add the source

Load the nanoFlash MXF clips

First try linking the complete original nanoFlash MXF media in the current Avid Media Composer. If Avid cannot link or decode the recording, open LosslessConverter, select Add Files, and add the required MXF clips for a DNxHD fallback.

Source toolbarLoad the source from the main toolbar.
02

Create an Avid fallback

Choose Avid DNxHD only when native linking fails

Open Output Format, select the Editing group, and choose Avid DNxHD. Match the source frame rate and dimensions; choose HD 1080P or HD 720P only when it matches the recording and Avid project.

Avid DNxHDSelect Editing, then choose Avid DNxHD.
03

Create the current output

Select Start All, then verify in Avid Media Composer

Choose an output folder and select Start All. When processing finishes, import the DNxHD MOV files into Avid Media Composer and verify picture, frame rate, timecode, and audio.

Try it with your own media

Test the original nanoFlash MXF in current Avid before creating a DNxHD fallback.
