Why MXF imports still fail
MXF is a professional container, not a single codec. Two files with the same .mxf extension can carry different video codecs, audio layouts, frame structures, timecode, and camera metadata. An editor may support one MXF variant and reject another, especially when a clip has been separated from its original camera folder or depends on a vendor plug-in.
Choose a current editing format
First try the original media in a current release of the destination editor. When direct import fails, create an editing copy that matches the project: ProRes for Final Cut Pro and other ProRes workflows, DNxHD for HD Avid or DaVinci Resolve work, or the current MPEG-2 editing preset for applications that require it. Keep the source resolution and frame rate unless the project calls for a deliberate change.
Verify before converting a batch
Convert one representative clip and inspect picture, audio, timecode, field order, color, and sync in the editor. Keep the original MXF files and camera folder structure until the complete job has been checked. This is more reliable than installing an old camera plug-in built for a retired operating system or editor version.
