How to convert Blu‑ray VC-1 to H.264 MOV, MKV, or MP4

Before you begin

Confirm the disc source and playback goal.

Select the correct title, audio, and subtitle tracks, then match the output to the player, device, or archive workflow.

Convert VC-1 only for a compatible destination

VC-1 appears on some Blu-ray titles. If the destination can decode it inside a supported container, a stream-preserving workflow avoids video re-encoding. Use H.264 when broader player, server, or editor support is required.

The steps below demonstrate H.264 in MP4. Choose MOV or MKV only when the target application documents that container and the selected video, audio, and subtitle streams. Because the codec changes, inspect motion, fine detail, color, audio, and sync before processing another title.

VC-1 appears on some earlier Blu-ray releases, while H.264 is accepted by a wider range of current players, TVs, media servers, and editing tools. Because the video codec changes, this is a transcode rather than a simple container switch; keep the original disc until the H.264 result has been checked for motion, detail, subtitles, and multichannel audio.

Add the source

Load the VC-1 Blu-ray disc

Open LosslessConverter and select Add Disc. Add the VC-1 Blu-ray disc, then select the required title, audio, and subtitle tracks.

Create a broadly compatible file

Choose Video > MP4

Open Output Format, select the Video group, and choose MP4. Start with Same as source, then change resolution only when the destination requires it.

Create the current output

Select Start All, then verify in H.264 playback

Choose an output folder and select Start All. When processing finishes, open the H.264 MP4 file in the destination player and inspect motion, detail, audio, subtitles, and sync.
