Import MTS and AVCHD footage into VEGAS Pro

Try the original AVCHD media first, then create an editing copy when VEGAS Pro cannot import or preview the source reliably.

Problem and solution

Check the AVCHD source before choosing a workflow.

Keep the original camera folder when available, then confirm the recording mode, frame rate, and destination support before converting.

Try the original AVCHD media first

Current VEGAS Pro releases can open many MTS and M2TS recordings directly. Import from the complete AVCHD camera folder when it is available because playlist, audio, and spanned-clip metadata may be stored outside the individual video files.

Test a representative clip before converting anything. If import succeeds and timeline playback is responsive, keep the original media in the project.

Convert only when the source is unreliable

Create an editing copy when a recording mode is unsupported, the camera structure is incomplete, audio is missing, or long-GOP decoding makes the timeline unstable. Match the project resolution, frame rate, scan type, and audio layout rather than choosing a preset from the filename alone.

Spanned recordings should be joined through the camera structure or a verified media workflow so clip boundaries do not introduce missing frames or audio gaps.

Verify the editing copy

Check picture, motion, audio, sync, and clip duration in VEGAS Pro before processing the remaining media. Keep the original camera folders until the project and every converted clip have been verified.

Solution direction

Apply the solution in the workflow below.

Try the original AVCHD media first, then create an editing copy when VEGAS Pro cannot import or preview the source reliably.

Three-step workflow

Create and verify one test output before processing the full batch.

01

Add the source

Load the MTS or AVCHD clips that VEGAS Pro cannot edit reliably

Open LosslessConverter and select Add Files. Add the MTS or AVCHD clips that VEGAS Pro cannot edit reliably and select the files required for this workflow.

LosslessConverter main window with the source controls visible
Source toolbarLoad the source from the main toolbar.
02

Match the editing application

Choose Editing > Premiere/VEGAS > MPEG-2

Open Output Format, select the Editing group, choose Premiere/VEGAS, and select MPEG-2. Match the resolution and frame rate to the editing sequence.

LosslessConverter Output Format menu with Premiere VEGAS and MPEG-2 selected
MPEG-2Select Premiere/VEGAS, then choose MPEG-2.
03

Create the current output

Select Start All, then verify in VEGAS Pro

Choose an output folder and select Start All. When processing finishes, import the MPEG-2 files into VEGAS Pro and verify resolution, frame rate, picture, audio, and sync.

Start AllRun the task, then verify the result.

Try it with your own media

Process one file, verify the result, then run the full batch.
