Decide whether ProRes is needed

Current Final Cut Pro releases can import many AVCHD recordings directly, especially when the complete camera folder is available. Start with native import and create ProRes media only when the recording mode is unsupported, decoding is slow, or the project needs a consistent editing codec.

Match the source resolution and frame rate, choose ProRes 422 as a practical default, and use a higher tier only when the source and finishing workflow justify the additional data rate.

Add the source

Load the AVCHD clips

Open LosslessConverter and select Add Files. Add the AVCHD clips and select the files required for this workflow.

Create editing-ready media

Choose Editing > ProRes

Open Output Format, select the Editing group, and choose ProRes. Select Same as source to retain the source dimensions; choose HD 1080P or HD 720P only when the project deliberately uses that resolution.

Create the current output

Select Start All, then verify in Final Cut Pro

Choose an output folder and select Start All. When processing finishes, import the ProRes MOV files into Final Cut Pro and verify picture, frame rate, timecode, and audio.
